| So, you want to be a
chaplain? You need
to be “in good standing” within your faith community/church. We will
need a reference from your faith community/church leader. You will have
to go through CRB clearance at an enhanced level. You will be
interviewed to assess your suitability for this work. It’s not for
everyone, personal skills, IT literate, good communications and
inter/personal skills, usually a full driving licence and own vehicle
are essential. Telephone and e-mail connection are normally essential,
and these to be made available in the workplace you visit.
You will work to our Code
of Conduct (available on the website). Documents including our annual
report, Chaplains newsletter (“God Squad!”) available from the website.
You will have a clear and strong commitment to ecumenical working and be
sensitive and respectful of the other faith traditions. Part of your
role will be to refer people to their own faith community leadership (at
their request). You will be a person able to keep strict confidence in
the matters you consulted about. You are accountable for your work to
WorkCare and will be expected to make regular reports on your work to
us. Occasional visits may be made on site with you by an officer of
WorkCare.
