WELCOME
WORKCARE Coventry &
Warwickshire (operating as Mission in the World of Work or MWW for short) is an ecumenical
Christian Agency of Churches Together on Coventry and Warwickshire. CWMWW was formed to continue the work of Coventry Industrial Mission
established by Coventry Cathedral & the Diocese of Coventry in 1962.
About our Work
We are a Christian based agency working in the dynamic and diverse world
of work and the economy.
These are our objectives:
-
To offer independent
pastoral support to people at work, regardless of their gender,
orientation, race,
religion or of no faith by regular visiting of places
of work.
Using our knowledge of and insight into the sub-regional economy we
will develop projects that will serve people, for example, through
working for economic and social regeneration.
-
To develop as a resource
for churches, congregations, ministers and church leaders
interpreting the world of work and the economy to the churches.
We receive core funding from
the churches but our day to day work is increasingly funded by our
clients who value that 'something extra' that a workplace chaplain can
bring. Our primary task is to listen and to care. People at work can
speak to our chaplains about personal issues or matters at work in
confidence. We offer this service to people at all levels in an
organisation.
The chaplain is somebody who is present in the organisation, develops an
understanding of its methods and the particular pressures that may
affect operations. The chaplain may be your 'sounding board' or 'safety
valve'. Sometimes the chaplain is your 'signpost', helping people access
specialist help. If someone asks us to make an introduction to a leader
of their own faith community, we will help them. |

FAITH COMMUNITIES REGENERATION
PROJECT
Kay
Aldersley – Regeneration Support Officer
|
Funded by the Coalfields
Regeneration Trust (CRT) the Project is now in its fourth year, working
with the ex-coalmining towns of Nuneaton and Bedworth and the villages
of Keresley and North Warwickshire. The aim of the Project is to
support and empower the faith communities to use their buildings for the
good of the wider community. In villages the ‘church’ building is often
the only community meeting place. The Project encourages the faith
community to work together, supporting each other by sharing ideas and
information. Working in such a way enables everyone to benefit from the
many activities offered by the faith community for children, young
people and older folk. |

Kay Aldersley ~
Regeneration Support Officer |
Training events take place
three times each year and a newsletter, ‘Look North’, is published
quarterly to promote events and report on ‘good news’ stories around the
patch! Key to utilizing buildings for community use is accessing
funding to enable improvements to take place, eg kitchens, toilets,
disabled access etc. Our partnerships with Nuneaton & Bedworth and
North Warwickshire Council for Voluntary Services (CVS) are essential in
being able to tap into current expertise and support for new and
expanding groups, particularly in the area of funding applications and
the ‘legalities’ of setting up a new group.
The Regeneration Support
Officer (RSO) has been working on a part-time basis since the start of
the Project in 2004 and has been encouraged to see Christian
denominations working together for the good of local people. The
refurbishment of halls has given ‘new life’ to some communities and
enabled additional services and activities to take place which would not
otherwise have happened. To give a ‘flavour’ of the Project, the
following community activities are just a few examples of what is
happening in the Project area:
-
Trinity Tots, a group at Holy
Trinity, Hartshill for pre-school children, parents and carers
(attracting 30+ children each week).
-
Hartshill Over 50’s Club – this group
began in November 2006 with eight members and now has nearly 50
members! They have successful applied for start-up funding and also
money to enjoy day trips and meals out!
-
Krazy
Kettle Café, Ansley Common – a community café open on Tuesdays and
Thursdays attracting local builders, mums on the way back from
taking children to school and older folk – an opportunity to enjoy a
wholesome breakfast and have a time to chat.
-
Ley Youth
Project – a dedicated full-time youth worker working in Arley,
Ansley, Ansley Common, Fillongley and Corley offering ‘drop in’
sessions and a programme of activities for local young people.
MULTI-FAITH PROJECT
Revd Robert Maloney, ordained
as a URC Minister on 1st September will work with us on a part time
basis as project leader for this exciting and challenging development in
our activity. We remain a Christian-based organisation; our key
sponsors are the member Churches of CTCW (Churches Together Coventry and
Warwickshire). Robert will be meeting with all our chaplains, Board
members, sponsoring churches and client organisations to discuss the
implications of becoming much more multi-faith conscious, and also of
the potential for appointing members of the other major faith
communities in our region as associate chaplains, always on the same
basis as our existing team members.
Chaplains are there for everyone
irrespective of their faith. They will advise on faith matters and when
appropriate always refer to an approved person from the enquirer’s faith
community to give the necessary support. This is a challenging and
exciting project and fits well with the diversity and respect agendas
now the norm.
