A CHAPLAIN FOR YOUR
COMPANY
Chaplaincy offers you a
person dedicated to support everyone in your place of work and at every
level of the organisation. Chaplains will have concern and care for
everyone irrespective of their faith, gender, sexuality, or race.
|
They will visit your
workplace regularly at agreed times and be available by arrangement with
you for personal and confidential support. Some have training in
counselling and critical incident debrief and these services can be made
available. Chaplains will make themselves known throughout your
organisation by all possible means available to them. This would include
Intranet, notice boards and staff newsletters. Chaplains will also
publish a phone number and e-mail through which direct contact,
off-site, may be made to them. Chaplains have been asked to arrange
services at special times, negotiate the provision of a room for prayer
by the various faith groups represented in the workforce. Chaplains also
have led Diversity work in a number of locations. Chaplains are deeply
committed to the principles of diversity and respect for everyone. |

They will have concern for
any issues raised especially if these have a negative connotation for
the workplace. Examples of this have included sexual harassment,
prejudice and bullying.
The chaplain is an
independent person and can often be proactive in defusing a situation
rather than have it fester to a point of crisis. Chaplains have talked
through issues leading a person to resign their employment and enabled
them to stay at work, seen individuals and sections through crises
including the death of a colleague at work, and individuals through
personal crises that were having a serious effect on their ability to do
their work.
Chaplaincy is NOT about
conversion, chaplains will not seek to convert anyone in the course of
their duties within your organisation.
Why do we do it?
We believe that:-
-
The churches and other
faith communities should be visible in the working world and the
wider economy.
-
The churches should
engage with the issues affecting workplaces and the economy at
large.
-
Supporting the workforce
management and trade unions increases the feelgood factor and
reduces stress.
Who are we?
We are a Christian-based
organisation that has been in business for some 40 years, serving a
variety of workplace locations across Coventry and Warwickshire. We are
an independent charity, soon to be a company limited by guarantee.
We are sponsored and
supported by the major Christian Churches (members of Churches Together
in Britain and Ireland).
We currently deploy 43
chaplains to a variety of workplaces including the Emergency Services,
Eon, Jaguar Land Rover and Aston Martin and Whitefriars Housing. All
chaplains and officers have enhanced CRB clearance in place and are
people in good standing with their own faith community or church. They
all work to our Code of Conduct. (This is available to see on the
website).
The customer pays!
Whilst we cannot offer the
service free of charge we believe that it represents very good value for
money. We have to cover the recruitment, training and support costs of
every chaplain. The chaplain will have expenses directly as a result of
their work, this should not be a burden on them as is the case with your
own workforce members. In cases where chaplains are asked by the client
to take on larger commitment then a proper sessional fee is charged for
their time. These costs vary year by year. At present as an example a
sessional fee (three hours) throughout the year is charged at £3500.
Costs vary and this is only a
guide, all this would be discussed when an application is made to us.
What next?
We are always happy to visit
your organisation to discuss this further and recommend it. We can also
send to you copies of our most recent publications including our annual
report.
You should, if necessary,
make approaches at the appropriate level in your company, and with staff
association or trade union/s.
